Instructions:

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, active dry yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg.

Add the softened butter and eggs to the flour mixture. Pour in the activated yeast mixture. Mix well to form a dough.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter or two differently sized round cookie cutters to cut out doughnut shapes.

Place the cut doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for an additional 30-45 minutes.

Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large, deep pot to 350°F (175°C).

Carefully add the doughnuts to the hot oil, frying each side for about 1-2 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.

Dip each doughnut into the glaze, coating it evenly, and place it on a wire rack to let the excess glaze drip off.

Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
