Instructions:

Prepare the Meat Sauce:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until soft and translucent.
Add the ground beef (and ground pork, if using) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Simmer the sauce for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Prepare the Cheese Filling:

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined.
Assemble the Lasagna:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.
Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
Spread a portion of the cheese filling over the noodles.
Add a layer of meat sauce on top of the cheese filling.
Repeat the layers (noodles, cheese filling, meat sauce) until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of noodles and a final layer of meat sauce.
Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
Bake the Lasagna:

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are slightly browned.
Let the lasagna rest for about 10-15 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
Serve and Enjoy!

Slice and serve the lasagna with a side salad and garlic bread if desired.
Enjoy your homemade lasagna!
